CAPO’s brief is to support artists in Canberra and the region through grants.

However, this has been an horrendous 2020 so far, with drought, bushfires, floods, hailstorms and now the corona virus impacting severely on every facet of our lives.

We at CAPO are aware that artists in the Canberra region have been besieged with requests to donate their artwork to help with fund-raising for the various drought- and fire-impacted communities, and the organisations that service them.

We are also aware that there is an enormous degree of ‘donation fatigue’ and that many artists simply do not have the financial provisions to keep creating art.

The Board of CAPO has therefore decided to suspend our annual auction for 2020.

This is a great disappointment to us, but as many businesses are also suffering, we are finding that we have fewer donation promises as well. This all impacts on what we can provide for artists in Canberra and the region, to help sustain them.

However, we do have some light at the end of that particular tunnel.

Many of our business sponsors have continued to support CAPO with donations for this year’s grants round.

There was a small but significant awards presentation ceremony for grant winners on 7th November 2020 at East Space Gallery.

We look forward, as we are sure you do, to a level of normality returning in 2021 that will allow us to run a CAPO Auction Party.
