Belconnen Art Centre Inclusion Award

Artists living with disability will be celebrated through CAPO’s Belconnen Arts Centre Inclusion Award, to be presented at CAPO’s annual fundraising Auction and Awards event. This award category, supported by the Community Arts and Cultural Development Program at Belconnen Arts Centre, will provide $2,000 in prize money and a four-week residency in Belconnen Arts Centre’s Arts Lounge.

“Disability is experienced by nearly one in five members of our community. This award aims to enhance social inclusion, provide participants with a means to express themselves and share their personal stories, creative visions, talents and passions with the broader community” says Ann McMahon, Creative Program Officer at Belconnen Arts Centre.

The Belconnen Arts Centre Inclusion Award delivers financial support and a residency in the Arts Lounge Gallery space to a Canberra artist living with disability. The award is open to artists practicing in any art form, medium or discipline and identifying as living with physical, sensory or intellectual disability or as having experienced mental illness.
As part of the description in the “Project Details” section of the application form, applicants must outline how they intend to make use of or activate the Arts Lounge Gallery space for the period of the residency. For example, it may be used for an exhibition including for digital media, as a living studio, intimate rehearsal space or for other interactive arts practice.
