Andrew Pike, film maker, was awarded $10,000 to produce a one-hour documentary about the innovative music education program run by Dr Susan West at the School of Music, ANU. The film is intended for TV broadcast and DVD release in Australia and overseas
Rosalie Gascoigne Award
Mariana del Castillo, visual artist, was awarded $4,000 to purchase an Elizabeth SKS2B industrial sewing machine, to develop larger indoor and outdoor artworks. Castillo is using techniques employed in boating manufacture and the commercial textile industry.
Singapore Airlines Award
Ed Whalan, visual artist, was awarded the Singapore Airlines Travel Grant to travel to Germany to undertake a studio based residence in Berlin to focus on exploring new techniques and subject matter in his arts practice and making new work. The work from the residency expereince will be exhibited at Canberra Contemporary Art Space.
Capital Insurance Emerging Artist Award
Fenella Edwards, visual artist, was awarded $500 towards the completion of a five track EP of original music — all made in Canberra.
Eckersley’s Materials Grant
Sarah Firth, visual artist, was awarded $1,000 materials grant to fund a large number of red marker pens needed to produce drawings associated with the work for the “Experimenta Commissions” program. This new work is an interactive kinetic sculpture of a tree that through a motion sensor is activated by the presence of viewers.
Jigsaw Theatre Company, was awarded $1,000 to support the fee for composer Peter J. Casey on the project “Ovid Overload”. Peter J. Casey will be writing an original score along with devising non-musical sound design for the production.
